Sunday's Funday: Barack the Brunch -- an inspirational brunch for change! Madiba will be serving complimentary mimosas with brunch, and the fun continues all day with live music into the early evening.

Monday, December 8th, 2008: Madiba participates in Goods for Good, a phenomenal event in Tribeca. This organization donates surplus goods to disadvantaged children in Africa, often finding cothes and toys that were slated to be destroyed and giving them to delighted children in Malawi and Liberia. Come join in to feel the holiday season in action!

This performance has plenty of talent coming in, both familiar and new, including Nick Turner and Mike Rennie of Mikanic, Tony Cedras, Nathi Gcabashe, president of CTSM Ken Kuo, and Kheswa! The show starts at seven. We'll see you there!
Saturday and Sunday, December 13th and 14th, 2008: Come join internationally acclaimed artist Claudia Pearson to chat about her new children's book Tribal Alphabet. Claudia has worked with many esteemed publications including Elle and The New York Times to name just a couple. Tribal Alphabet, her first children's book, won the Silver Moonbeam Award. She will be signing copies of her book at this event! Don't miss it!
Sunday, December 14th, 2008: It's Madiba's Coexist Holiday Party! Our holiday celebration starts at noon with DJ Stone playing through brunch, followed by dinner with Mikanic and the South African allstars Tony Cedras on keyboard and accordion, Morris Goldberg on pennywhistle, Anton Fig on drums, and Bakithe Kumalo on bass, together with special guest singers Nathi Gcabashe and Kheswa. These are some of the greatest South African musicians in the business, and they're not all! Be prepared for special performances and guest appearances of our singers and dancers! There is no minimum and only a $10 cover charge for this rocking holiday party. Brunch with DJ Stone starts at noon. Starting at 5:00pm there will be cocktails, biltong, and samoosas, followed by a seven o'clock dinner and show! Monday, March 30th, 2009: Madiba is excited to support Shared Interest, a group that envisions a just and vibrant South African economy by mobilizing the resources for South Africa, creating a society that serves as a model of economic justice. Shared Interest's 15th Anniversary Gala will be attended by honorees H.E. Graça Machel (wife of Nelson Mandela and former First Lady of Mozambique) and Dr. Price Cobbs. Thursday, August 28th, 2008: Yes We Can! party! At 8:00pm, we'll be featuring live music and drink specials as a prelude to the Democratic National Convention. Starting at 9:30, we'll be showing the convention live on our big projection screen; and at 10:00pm, Obama will be giving his acceptance speech for the official Democratic nomination. 7-18-08: Nelson Mandela's Birthday!
Friday, July 18th, 2008: Nelson Mandela's birthday! Come celebrate the life of the man instrumental in the abolition of apartheid in South Africa. We're going all out to commemorate South Africa's most important icon. It's a huge evening of live music starting at 8:00pm, special performances by Juxtapower at 10:00pm, drink specials -- the works! Also we'll be wishing a happy birthday to Madiba's own Tony Cedras, a world-class musician currently touring with Paul Simon, who, when home in New York, can often be found at his home-away-from-home Madiba! A percentage of tonight's profits go to the Love Jesse Foundation, organized around a remarkable young woman from South Africa with cerebral palsy. Thursday, June 19th, 2008: It's a Big Night in Brooklyn! Madiba teams up with ArtAidsArt, and will be hosting an evening featuring a special menu, a movie, music, and a sale of South African crafts and beadwork. Proceeds fund construction of eKhaya eKasi Center, a community, art education and microbusiness center to be located in Khayelitsha, South Africa. Tickets available on the ArtAidsArt website.

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008: Barack the Vote! Madiba Restaurant supports Barack Obama, the only presidential candidate who consistently inspires hope and passion in the American people across race and party boundaries. Come celebrate the end of Black History Month with a party for the man who is already one of the greatest African-American political figures in history. We will be showing some of Obama's phenomenal speeches on the big screen at Madiba and giving out information about how to get involved in the Obama campaign. And we'll be doing it the way Obama would want - with great food, family and friends; with hope in our hearts, and action in our hands. A percentage of all the night's proceeds will be donated directly to the Obama campaign. Food and festivities begin at 7pm.

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007: Fundraiser dinner for the Ubuntu Education Fund at 8pm at Madiba. Madiba Restaurant will be donating all the food for the fundraiser. 80 seats only; $100 per person. 10-30-07 Fifth Annual Achilles NY Marathon Fundraising Dinner
Tuesday, October 30th, 2007: Fifth Annual Achilles NY Marathon Fundraising Dinner at Madiba starting at 7pm. Every year Madiba Restaurant sponsors an additional disabled child through the Ethembeni School of the Physically Disabled and Visually Impaired. Come for dinner and meet some inspirational children from Zulu Land who have been training for this marathon all their lives. No cover and no minimum donation. All donations and a percentage of the night's proceeds go directly to the Ethembeni School.

10-27-07 Fundraiser for the Children of Agape
Saturday, October 27th, 2007: The children of Agape will be attending the 2pm performance of The Lion King on Broadway. We are sponsoring a reception at 4pm at the theatre following the performance, with a Q & A session afterwards, catered by Madiba's wonderful food. All proceeds go to the children of Agape.

10-25-07 Keep a Child Alive
Thursday, October 25th, 2007: The Black Ball and Keep a Child Alive at the Hammerstein Ballroom with Alicia Keys, Bono, and other celebrities. For the past two years, Madiba Restaurant has been assisting the children of the Agape Orphanage outside Durban. In 2005 their main orphanage was devastated by fire. More information on the award-winning documentary of this story can be found at www.wearetogether.org. We are the main sponsor of the Juxtapower Dances at this event.

Friday, October 19th, 2007: Madiba honors the life and death of Lucky Dube. Lucky was a beloved and very talented musician whose political music assisted the end of apartheid. Tshidi Stone will be spinning Lucky's music all night. Come light a candle for Lucky.

9-13-07 It's Madiba Day in Brooklyn!
Thursday, September 13th, 2007: Celebration of Madiba Restaurant's 8th anniversary! We received a proclamation from the City of Brooklyn and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, presented by Councilwoman Letica James and Senator Velmanette Montgomery, declaring this day Madiba Restaurant Day in Brooklyn.
